Words this app uses
When a label doesn't mean what you'd assume.
Anytime
The first pill on each of the Plans tab's rails, and the bucket behind it. Home for anything you haven't given a day to, and for anything whose day the trip no longer covers, so nothing disappears when you change your dates. An ordinary outfit named "Anytime" is not the bucket — it's an ordinary outfit that happens to share a label.
Archive
Puts a section, item or template out of the way without destroying it. Archived things stop being offered on new trips and can be brought back. Prefer this to deleting — deleting is permanent.
Critical
A flag meaning "if I lose this, the trip is ruined". Critical items show a red marker, can be filtered on their own, and are gathered automatically into the Double Check panel on Travel day.
Double Check
A panel pinned to the bottom of the Travel tab, below every section, listing every critical item on your Pack list with its own confirm tick. It isn't a section you can edit — the app builds it from your critical items each time you look. Its tick is separate from packing.
Errand
An item type: something to do that involves leaving the house. Doesn't display a quantity.
Essential
A section priority. Essentials arrive pre-ticked when you create a trip. Eight sections ship this way; you can make any section Essential.
Favorite
Two different things, unfortunately:
- A favorite section is one you've elevated so it's offered high up when making a trip.
- A favorite template is one you've hearted, which pins it to the Home screen's template menu.
Group
The plain row with a chevron inside a section — Tops, Bottoms, Shoes. Groups start collapsed, which is what makes a sixty-one-item section readable. Two groups may share a name.
Instance / Master
Words from the app's internals that occasionally surface in developer docs. In plain terms: a master is a library definition, an instance is the copy that lives inside one trip. Editing one never changes the other.
Item
Two meanings. Loosely, anything on a list. Precisely, one of the four types — a physical object you put in a bag. Only this type displays a quantity badge.
Kit
A section whose items don't share with the rest of the trip. Sunscreen in a Beach Kit and sunscreen in a Hiking Kit are two bottles. Use a kit for anything you'd physically pick up as a unit.
Library
The definitions the app builds trips from — the Item Library, the Sections & Kits Library, and the Template Library, all under Settings. Changes here reach the next trip you make, never the ones that exist.
Linked items ("Also in …")
The caption above an item's name telling you it appears in another section too. Linked items are one object: checking one checks the other, editing one edits both. Deleting one deletes only that copy.
Magic + / the + button
The round button beside the tab bar. Tap it to open an add field at the top of what you're looking at; drag it to drop the field at an exact spot in the list.
Needed on the way home
A per-item setting, on by default, deciding whether the item un-ticks when you reset your lists for the journey back. Off for things that only apply to your own house — locking up, the dishwasher.
No Priority
The default section priority. Not a demotion — it just means the section is offered when it's relevant to the trip rather than always.
Note
An item type: a line of text with no action. Also, confusingly, the note field on any item — the line of explanation under its name.
Decrement
What a planned garment does to the generic count it stands in for. Name a navy T-shirt and T-shirt ×3 becomes T-shirt ×2 plus your navy one — your total is unchanged, you've just said what one of them is. Deleting the named garment gives the count back. Basics and Accessories never decrement.
Outfit
A set of garments you planned for one day of the trip, on the Plans tab. Its position is its day — the first outfit is the first day — and its name is only a label. The garments themselves live on the packing list, filed by type.
Phase
One of the five parts of a trip — Prep, Pack, Travel, Plans, Return. Every trip has all five; the tab bar shows four at a time.
Priority
A section's setting deciding how prominently it's offered: Essential, Favorite, or No Priority.
Quantity formula
The rule an item uses to work out how many of it you need — Always 1, Days + 2, Days ÷ 2, and so on. Set in the Item Library; calculated once when a trip is created.
Relevance tags
The trip type, weather, season, transportation and duration tags on a section or item, deciding when it's appropriate. Empty means "always relevant", not never.
Remove
What you do to something on a trip. Taking an item off a trip is Remove — it leaves that trip and nothing else changes. Delete belongs to your libraries, where it destroys the definition itself. The trip as a whole is the exception: a trip can still be deleted, from its ••• menu.
Section
A colored pill on a list — Clothes, Toiletries, Wallet & Docs. Sections share items with each other; kits don't. No two sections may share a name, and the emoji doesn't make them different.
Template
A saved trip setup you can start new trips from: sections, items, quantities, notes and tags, but never dates, names or check state.
To-Do
An item type: something to do. Doesn't display a quantity. New entries on Prep, Plans and Return default to this.
Worn
The tick under a garment on the Plans tab. Means "I've worn this", and is completely separate from whether the garment is packed.
